Dance Ages 3-18

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements from modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. In this class, you will strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. This class allows you to express your soul and different emotions through movement. Contemporary is commonly seen on So You Think You Can Dance! This style uses unique softer music (think Ben Howard or Lana Del Rey).

What to wear:

  • Black leotard or TVP crop top/TVP sports bra/TVP tank top and black dance shorts/ black leggings
  • Footwear: Bare feet or foot undeez

 

Acro/Tumbling

Acro/Tumbling is a class where you will work on basic tumbling progressions beginning with forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and round-offs. If you are advancing quickly, we will begin to focus on more challenging tumbling skills such as aerials, standing back handsprings, standing back tucks, round-off back handsprings and back tuck combination passes! We will focus a great deal on flexibility and gain a deeper understanding of the role flexibility plays in dance.

 

What to wear:

  • Black leotard or TVP crop top/TVP sports bra/TVP tank top and black dance shorts/ black leggings
  • Footwear: Bare feet or cheer sneakers

 

Jazz

Jazz uses sharp and fluid movements to create a visually technical dance and style. In this class you will learn body isolations, turning, leaping, jumping and technical jazz steps. Be ready to get sassy & spicy as you dance to some of the most popular hit music!

What to wear:

  • Black leotard or TVP crop top/TVP sports bra/TVP tank top and black dance shorts/ black leggings
  • Footwear: Jazz shoes

 

Tricks, Turns & Technique

In this class, we focus on different kinds of turns, jumps, leaps & kicks including more complicated combinations across the floor and center floor. Be ready to challenge yourself with fun, new and exciting tricks and turn combos!

  • Leaps in second, barrel/calypso leaps, surprise leaps, switch leaps, and more!
  • Single, double and triple pirouette turns, a la seconde turns
  • Battements, fan kicks, and tilts

 

What to wear:

  • Black leotard or TVP crop top/TVP sports bra/TVP tank top and black dance shorts/ black leggings
  • Footwear: Jazz shoes, foot undeez, or bare feet

 

Pre-Ballet

This is a class for dancers ages 3-5 years old. This class will introduce ballet vocabulary to the students, and the basic 5 positions of ballet.  This will be done through exercises that are meant to help them with balance, coordination, body awareness, and the task of following directions. Parents will drop their child for the 30-minute class and will have the opportunity to watch what they have learned of specific scheduled days that will be announced in advance.

What to wear:

  • Ballet dress (sold at studio), pink tights, hair must be pulled up in a bun
  • Footwear: pink ballet slippers

 

Pre-Tap

This is a class for dancers ages 3-5 years old. Tap dance is a rhythmic form of dance which focuses on musicality and sounds. Your child will be introduced to tap steps that will create different and unique sounds as the tap shoes strike the floor. They will discover and learn body awareness. Parents will drop their child for the 30-minute class and will have the opportunity to watch what they have learned of specific scheduled days that will be announced in advance.

 

What to wear:

  • Ballet dress (sold at studio), pink tights
  • Footwear: tap shoes

 

Baby Bop

Baby Bop is the introduction to hip-hop for children ages 3-5 years old. This is an upbeat class that will focus on rhythm, isolations, freestyle and age-appropriate choreography similar to what you see in music videos. They will learn body awareness, such as left vs. right, up vs. down, balance, body parts, and more. They will have a blast learning how to break it down to funky hip-hop music. Parents will drop their child for the 30-minute class and will have the opportunity to watch what they have learned of specific scheduled days that will be announced in advance.

What to wear:

  • TVP tank top, crop top, or black leotard with black leggings or black booty shorts
  • Footwear: Sneakers- must be clean and not used for street wear with a non-mark sole.

 

Ballet

Ballet will teach you the French ballet vocabulary, and technique for correct body placement. Ballet is the foundation for all other genres of dance, and therefore it is highly recommended. Ballet will be studied through barre, center, and allegro work.

 

What to wear:

  • Black leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt/leg warmers optional, hair must be pulled up in a bun
  • Footwear: pink ballet slippers

 

Tap

Tap dance is a rhythmic form of dance which focuses on musicality and sounds. You will learn many combinations and steps that create different and unique sounds as the tap shoes strike the floor.

What to wear:

  • Black leotard, tights, and black booty shorts
  • Footwear: Tap shoes

 

Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop classes are designed for dancers both with or without formal dance training. You will be in an upbeat class that will focus on rhythm, isolations, freestyle, and choreography similar to what you see in music videos. The music will be current and old school to bring a new vibe to every class!

What to wear: 

  • Comfortable dance or athletic wear may be worn.
  • Footwear: Sneakers- must be clean and not used for street wear with a non-mark sole.
